MOMENTOUS provides technical production and show direction for galas, awards shows, corporate events and brand events in Palm Springs, across the Coachella Valley and nationwide. We handle staging, lighting, audio, video and LED, live streaming, stage management and show calling, in ballrooms and in harder rooms: aircraft hangars, clear pavilions, museums and tents.
What does technical production include?
Technical production is everything the audience sees and hears from the stage, and the crew and plan that make it run on time. At MOMENTOUS it covers staging, sound, lighting, video, live streaming, show direction and stage management. Each discipline is designed around the room and the program, then tied together in one run of show.
Staging
The stage, risers and room layout decide where every eye goes. For The Desert Symphony Gala 2022, theater seats were removed from the floor of The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Rancho Mirage and dining tables set in their place. For a corporate client in the Caribbean, we leveled a ballroom with elevated dining decks at varying heights, wrapped the room and ceiling, and suspended cantilevered chandeliers.
Lighting
Lighting sets the mood, directs attention and tells the room when something matters. It is also what turns an empty hangar or tent into a finished space. Read more in Great Lighting: An Essential Element For a Memorable Event and How Lighting Design Transforms Palm Springs Venues After Sunset.
Audio
Every speech, auction call and performance depends on clear sound across the whole room. For the Palm Springs Air Museum Gala 2023, our technical production included engineered sound, lighting, video and technical labor. Concerts raise the bar further: The Desert Symphony 2026 Gala featured a concert by Bernadette Peters, accompanied by The Desert Symphony.
Video and LED
Screens carry show graphics, speaker close-ups, sponsor content and the films that set up the ask. At Art Party 2026, video tributes from Bernadette Peters, P!NK and Cher anchored the program honoring Bob Mackie. Our creative services team produces graphics and content alongside the technical plan.
Live streaming
A stream adds an audience beyond the room. For the City of Eastvale's 2020 Virtual State of the City, we built an on-location studio and streamed a one-hour show on Vimeo, YouTube and Facebook Live. More on this in virtual, hybrid and televised events.
Stage management
The stage manager runs backstage: talent, presenters, honorees and every scene change. At the Palm Springs Air Museum Gala 2026, our services included run of show development, stage management and show direction for nearly 1,000 guests.

What does a show director do during the event?
The show director calls the show. Working from the run of show, they cue lighting, audio, video and the stage manager, and keep the program on time. When something runs long or changes, the show director adjusts the remaining cues so the program stays on track.
The Air Museum gala shows why this matters. The 2026 evening moved from a cocktail reception to the reveal of the Vietnam Wall Memorial, the unveiling of an aircraft, a seated dinner, and an awards show with entertainment, across more than one hangar. Each move is a set of cues, and each one has to land on time. MOMENTOUS also led show direction at Zoobilee 2026, A Night To Remember 2026, Center Stage 2025 and the multi-location Color the World 2026.
What is a run of show?
A run of show, or show flow, is the minute-by-minute script for the event. It lists every segment, who is on stage, and what lighting, audio and video do at each moment. Everyone on the crew works from the same document.
Our post 5 Elements Your Event Show Flow Needs covers what goes into one. Here is a simplified sample page from a gala run of show. It is an illustration, not a real event.
| Time | Segment | On stage | Lighting | Audio and video |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7:30 | Doors to dinner | Walk-in music | Room wash, stage dark | Sponsor loop on screens |
| 7:45 | Welcome | Emcee | Stage up, room to half | Emcee mic, live camera to screens |
| 7:50 | Mission film | None | Room to dark | Film plays, house audio |
| 7:55 | The ask | Auctioneer | Stage up, spot on auctioneer | Two mics, bid graphics on screens |
| 8:20 | Honoree award | Presenter and honoree | Stage and spot | Walk-up music, honoree film |
| 8:35 | Headliner | Band | Show lighting | Band audio, live camera to screens |
Why use renderings before show day?
Renderings let everyone see the room before it is built. They show the stage, screens, lighting positions, décor and seating, so the client can approve the look and the crew can plan the build. Floor plans, diagrams and elevations then turn the picture into a plan.
Renderings are part of the design step in our five-step process, ahead of pre-production and show day. Read The Role of Renderings in Professional Event Planning and Design for more.

Can you work in a tent, a hangar, a museum or an open field?
Yes. Several of our longest-running events take place in spaces that were never built for a show. Each one starts with site logistics: power, rigging, sound, guest flow, and what the space can and cannot hold.
| Space | Event | What we produced |
|---|---|---|
| Clear pavilion | Zoobilee 2026 | An 8,000-square-foot clear pavilion at The Living Desert, with infrastructure planning and technical production |
| Aircraft hangars | Center Stage 2024 | A gala across two 20,000-square-foot hangars at the Palm Springs Air Museum |
| Hangar at scale | Modernism Week Opening Night 2026 | More than 20,000 square feet of hangar space for nearly 1,000 guests |
| Museum | Art Party 2025 | A sculpture garden reception and a live art auction in the museum theater |
| Tent | State of the College 2020 | A tent pavilion built as a business theater for College of the Desert |
| Theater floor | The Desert Symphony 2024 | A gala set on the floor of The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Rancho Mirage |
| Outdoor lot | One Night Only VIP Sponsor Dinner | A dinner for 500 guests in an 18,000-square-foot outdoor parking lot bay |
The Zoobilee pavilion has changed over the years. The 2016, 2017 and 2019 editions used a 10,000-square-foot climate-controlled pavilion, and the 25th anniversary of Zoobilee in 2019 staged dinner in the round. The 2022 and 2023 galas used a 7,000-square-foot clear pavilion, and since 2024 the gala has used an 8,000-square-foot clear pavilion. We have also transformed a movie theater into an awards show for Desert AIDS Project's Everyday Heroes Awards, and a gymnasium into a business theater for State of the College 2019.

Technical production sits inside most of our gala and fundraiser productions and corporate meetings and conferences.

Yes. MOMENTOUS has produced events in aircraft hangars at the Palm Springs Air Museum, in a clear pavilion at The Living Desert, inside Palm Springs Art Museum and in a tent pavilion for College of the Desert.
